Friends, meet bae. Bae, meet friends.
On my list of goals for 2017–guitar lessons.

My mama bear sent me a fabulous care package in October. If there’s anything I love, it’s the changing of seasons. She sent me pumpkin flavored everything, candy, tea, and fall decor. She is probably the best mom to ever mom.

I had my friend Katie over for a fancy food, chick flick and wine night. There might be plastic ice cubes in our wine glasses, but we don’t need to talk about that.

The family and I went on our annual trip to the mountains. For that blog post, click here.
I’m a mad fan of changing leaves, cool temperatures, crisp mountain air, and photographing everything. These trips are my jam.

We were super blessed by one of my brother-in-law’s former students whose family let us stay with him at their cabin. We really enjoyed epic movie nights, wide open views of the stars, a lot of great windows, and the coffee station outside our rooms.

Adventures around town would not be complete without a stop at The Mast General Store, bottled soda, and some OOTD shots with the mountains in the background. Photobomb courtesy of Jon and Noah.

We spent a good part of the afternoon keeping tabs on the situation back home in Fayetteville where Hurricane Matthew was wreaking havoc. Snapchat, Facebook–all the social media sites kept us in the loop and helped us reassure everyone we were safe too.

I love the stars. I love the moon. I love telescopes. I love all of these things even more when we’re in the mountains.

Friends and fire pits.
These human beings and our friend group probably don’t know how grateful I actually am for them. They adopted me in October, and it’s been super wonderful.

Work all day, work all night, capture the sunset in-between.

You know what I love? I’ve already mentioned fall and turning leaves. Combine those with photography adventures and I’m set.
I will share those photos with you later.
Also, mis-matched socks.

When you wake up at 7:30am on a Saturday for a photo adventure but don’t drink coffee any more so you have to get a tea that’s as big as your face.

This is such a sibling photo. Just hanging out at church in-between services, like we do.

When other offices hear about the hurricane and the flooding so they make hurricane buckets and send them to your market center to give to people in need. I’ve gotta get real, I lose faith in humanity sometimes but these kind of acts, and all the giving hearts I have witnessed in the months since the hurricane, have been truly remarkable.

The competition was fierce this year at my office. Every halloween we have a door decorating competition. My boss (AKA his wife) did an excellent job. Honorable mention.

Halloween at the Harkness house! I wore my dragon onesie. It has a tail.

my iPhone life || september 2016

September was pretty chill. There was a lot of healing, too much shopping, and a whole lot of sitting around in my apartment by myself.

I decorated for fall on September first. I used to go all out–putting up garlands and scattering fake leaves around my centerpiece of awesomeness. There were wreathes and dangling bedazzled pinecones, all surrounded by an aroma of pumpkin goodness. This year I kept it more simple by embracing the minimalist look and showing my white pumpkins some love.

“Wake up early. Drink coffee. Work hard. Be ambitious. Keep your priorities straight, your mind right and your head up. Do well, live well and dress really well. Do what you love, love what you do. It is time to start living.”

My family makes an annual journey up north to the outlets to hit the sales and spend a lot of money on things that we don’t need. Don’t worry, y’all, that Hashtag PSL is decaf.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. // Eccl 3:11
Beautiful people do not just happen.
One of the passages my church taught on this day was from Ecclesiastes. When I came home, I decided to read the book and chapter three stuck out to me. Something bigger is always going on because God is in everything. Every ending, there is a road to a new beginning. We get hope that He is in the trials.
Trust.

Coco’s first time at my house. The first thing she did was poop on the floor. She wasn’t so sure about any of it, but getting to cuddle on the couch is always exceptional in her book.

my iPhone life || september 2016

This was a thing for a while. I often have trouble sleeping because of my anxiety, so on nights when I just couldn’t get my mind to stop, I would turn on a movie. Sense and Sensibility was the best choice, I think.

Orfila was close to my house in San Diego. I miss being in wine country sometimes. It’s hard to go wrong with a moscato, though.

On the recommendation of my friend and coworker, I started reading “Uninvited” by Lysa TerKeurst. If you feel unloved, or unwanted, or have found that deep seated rejections from your past affect your present relationships and worldview, please consider reading it. “Things of this world all eventually reveal what incapable anchors they really are… Is God good? Is God good to me? Do I trust God to be God? …Live from the abundant place that you are loved.”

My window. Will not. Stop leaking.
My landlord has fixed it and patched it and taped it. Supposedly it will get replaced one of these days. But until then, I might occasionally wake up to having a swimming pool in my kitchen.

my iPhone life || september 2016

For how much time I spend at church, I really don’t document it often. I kind of just let it be and live in the moment. Sometimes it’s nice to keep things for ourselves. After sharing so much of my everything on YouTube for so long, I am beginning to really find peace and joy in experiencing things without telling ANYONE about them.

my iPhone life || september 2016

My boss bought me a Death Star lamp.
WHAT.
even the heck.
I just adore her.

my iPhone life || september 2016 my iPhone life || september 2016

The week before Hurricane Matthew hit, we had a massive rain storm that washed out a lot of roads and caused significant problems. My kitchen window leaked like it never had before. I was just minding my own business when I heard water GUSHING down the window, across my counter, and onto the floor.

my iPhone life || september 2016

I used every towel I own.

I am grateful September came and went. October has been significantly better. I will be blogging about my trip to the mountains soon so don’t forget to follow if you don’t want to miss anything!

Until next time,

Jamie

my iPhone life // august 2016

We aren’t going to compare, or dwell, or pretend. I won’t lie and say that the irony of two events happening so close together, albeit two years apart, didn’t kill me.  But that’s it. We’re done in the past. We’re in the now, and we’re being positive. Strength doesn’t mean we always have it together, but it does mean that we move on. Strength means that even when we don’t understand–and maybe we feel lost–we still take one step at a time until we find ourselves again.

August is. August was. Now it is not. You will never have moments back again. Embrace this life. Let things mold you, shape you, break you, remake you. You will be better than you were before. Trust.

These are the golden moments you are missing out on by not following my Snapchat. jamieddaily. Shameless plug.

And that still small voice gave me what I needed to rest on in August. Be still.

My seriously adorable agents showed me so much love the first Sunday they saw me sing at church. It was my second time singing at the main site and not only did they take this photo and then post it for all of my work family, but they left their seat, came to the front, and took video as well.
I love them. So much.

I’m slowly trying to step up my shoe game. Being a west coast girl, a pair of flip flops and some converse are really all a girl needs to survive.
They do things a little differently on the east coast. They don’t just throw in some cute boots. No, no. They pull out all the stops, with booties of all different kinds, oxfords, loafers, flats, heels, keds, sandals… Flip flops are for swimming pools and super casual days. If they want to be “west coast vides” they break out the Birkenstocks.

Another golden moment, brought to you by Snapchat. This is the real me.
I dyed my hair, compliments of the classic post-break-up “I need to do something” moment. I haven’t cut it yet. I assume that’s coming in the future.

The day my car wouldn’t start, and the warranty on my battery was no good, and I was grateful for the money I put in savings for days like this. Also, Carl my AAA car guy was pretty fabulous and told me all about how he’s never going to get married and he made fun of me for taking pictures.

I bought A LOT of red lipstick in August. A LOT. I’m working on owning all of the shades known to mankind. It’s really working out for me.

Outdoor theatre? Yes please! But seriously, how cool is this?!
My good friend Katie invited me out to see Fantastic Mr. Fox with a group of people from church. It was a little stormy, and we had an evacuation plan in place in case there was a downpour. But there was food, and candy, and good people, and an excellent film. These are my kind of summer nights.

I am now such an adult that I own a chair that no one is allowed to sit in.
My lovely, amazing coworker ChrisAnn gifted me this antique rocking chair that has found its new home in my bedroom.

my iPhone life // august 2016

Anxiety was my constant companion in August, so my mom sent me a care package full of tea and naturally calming things. Because she is the best mom to ever mom.

Friends, August was rough. I know you feel that way about your life sometimes too. Sometimes we just have to go through seasons that break us apart, so that we can be molded into better people. I find healing in photography. I find healing in poetry. I find healing in writing. I find healing in music.  And I find healing in pursuing a God who is really really good at being God.

Be still.

Until next time,

Jamie
